The Victoria Climbié Foundation UK has been organising vigils for the last five years to commemorate the death of Victoria Climbié, to ensure that she is remembered, not just as a name but as a person.

On 26th February 2007, together with The Monitoring Group (TMG), we organised the first Victoria Climbié memorial lecture that was addressed by our eminent guest speaker Lord Laming. You can read his speech at the event here as a PDF file. Director of the Victoria Climbié Foundation, Mor Dioum, also spoke at the event – his speech can be read here as a PDF file.  See event photographs below.

The foundation has also published this chronology of the events relating to the Victoria Climbié case.

Lord Laming was the Chair of the Public Inquiry over the murder of the 8 year old Victoria Climbié. The Laming/Climbié report investigated the role of social services, National Health Service, care organisations (NSPCC) and the Police in her death.  It found that on at least 12 occasions care workers could have saved her life. The highly critical report proposed fundamental reforms in the way children should be protected.  In its response the Government formulated policy changes in ‘Every Child Matters’. What has been the impact of the Inquiry recommendations for care services? What is Victoria’s legacy?
