Government-commissioned review into safeguarding progress to-date

 

12 Nov 08:  Scope of Laming Progress Report on safeguarding
Children’s ministers ask Lord Laming to prepare an urgent report of progress across the country to implement effective arrangements for safeguarding children. Lord Laming approached 50 organisations, asking them to reply to the three questions developed by the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families as central to the review.

12 Mar 09: The Protection of Children in England: A Progress ReportPress Release
Lord Laming’s review of child protection in England.  The report states that ‘Every Child Matters’ is the right framework for safeguarding children although recognises that more needs to be done to ensure that it is implemented in practice to provide the best quality care and protection for every child at the front door of each of the key services.  Ministers have pledged to overhaul children’s services in England after his report condemned the slow progress made in protecting young people from harm.  Click here to read Government commitment to delivering Laming recommendations

 

May 09: Government Response to Lord Laming Progress Report
This country has one of the best child protection systems in the world. Every day, thousands of people at the front line – social workers, teachers, police officers, doctors, nurses and many others – work tirelessly to support children and young people and help keep them safe. But good practice is not yet standard practice everywhere – and we should not rest until it is.
