LEARNING FROM ONE ANOTHER:  VCF – The Victoria Climbié Foundation and the London Safeguarding Children Board jointly hosted a series of sessions throughout 2009, on safeguarding children across culture and faith. The aim of these seminars was to provide a forum for professionals working in the field of child safeguarding to meet, hear about innovative practice ideas and/or research and to discuss ways in which abuse in all its guises may be better prevented and managed, with a particular focus on work with local community and faith groups.

The fourth session was held on Thursday November 12th 2009, 9.30 – 12.30 at Kings College, London.The seminar was led by Harrow LSCB and the Victoria Climbié Foundation and focused on a community-led partnership initiative to enhance the life chances of BME children.

Strategies to better safeguard children in highly diverse communities

The third of these sessions was held on Tuesday 8th September 2009, 9.30am – 12.30pm at Kings College, London with presentations by Dr Sophie Laws (Coram), Dr Sara Scott (DMSS Consultancy) and representatives from LB Tower Hamlets

The second session was held on Tuesday July 14th 2009, 2.00pm – 5.00pm at Kings College, London with a talk by Hannana Siddiqui from Southall Black Sisters.

Developing safeguarding policies and good working practice with children in faith communities

The first of these sessions was held on Thursday April 30th 2009, 9.30am – 12.30pm at the London Irish Centre in Camden with presentations delivered by David Pearson and Bob Pull from the Churches Child Protection Advisory Service (CCPAS).
